Beta-Alanine is a food supplement designed especially for athletes that can provide valuable help during competitions or training sessions and recovery phases.
Beta-Alanine is an amino acid precursor of some biological molecules involved in fundamental biochemical mechanisms; in fact, the bond between the Beta-Alanine molecule with a pantoic acid molecule gives rise to pantothenic acid, better known as Vitamin B5, which in turn enters the composition of Coenzyme A (CoA).
CoA intervenes in the known mechanisms of oxidation of fatty acids and in the Krebs cycle.
The role of Beta-Alanine in boosting resistance and delaying muscle fatigue can be traced back to its ability to bind to a molecule of the amino acid Histidine, forming Carnosine. The latter acts mainly as a buffer, i.e. as a substance capable of delaying the onset of lactic acidosis (increase in H+ ions) within the muscle cell, allowing the delay of fatigue and the maintenance of the capacity for muscle contraction during intense exercise.
The use of Beta-Alanine as a supplement is related to its ability to restore and increase the availability of muscle Carnosine and appears to be more effective than the supplementation of Carnosine itself. Finally, Beta-Alanine shows antioxidant activity, providing further help when performing high intensity workouts.
Beta-Alanine supplementation can cause in certain subjects a slight paresthesia or a sensation of itching or tingling at the ends of the fingers, at the level of the auricles, which occurs a few minutes after ingestion. This condition is transitory and harmless, it is attenuated after the start of physical activity and is reduced with the continued use of Beta-Alanine.
To avoid this type of discomfort, it is advisable to divide its intake into several times a day.
Beta-Alanine is particularly useful for counteracting fatigue during long and high intensity efforts as it is able to delay the feeling of tiredness.
For greater effectiveness, take 1 tablet 3 times a day with a glass of water (200 ml) for a period of no less than 2 weeks.
Beta-Alanine can also be taken before training or performance.
